To the right, bottom, and left, an inscription in Portuguese: "AFRICA.PORTUGUEZA", translated as "Portuguese Africa". At the top along the rim, the mint year 1796, separated from the inscription by two four-petaled flowers with dots on the sides. Decorative raised denticles along the edge of the coin.

In the central part, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal. To the right, bottom, and left along the edge, text in Latin: "MARIA.I.D.G.REGINA.PORT.ET.D.GUINEÆ", the titles of Queen Maria I of Portugal. Decorative raised denticles along the edge of the coin.
