In the central part, within a circle: depiction of a church on the main square of Laja city, above it the coat of arms of the city of La Paz, below the inscription "Iglesia de Laja" (Laja Church), beneath it – "Bs 50" (50 Bolivianos), on the left vertically the metal fineness "Plata 925" (Silver 925). Along the edge of the coin, text from left to right: "450 AÑOS DE FUNDACION DE LA CIUDAD DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA PAZ" (450 Years since the Foundation of the City of Nuestra Señora de La Paz), at the bottom the years of foundation and the 450th anniversary "1548-1998". All inscriptions are in Spanish.
Obverse
In the central part, the coat of arms of the Republic of Bolivia is depicted. It consists of an oval containing: Mount Potosí, a rising sun on the left, an alpaca facing right at the mountain's base, a sheaf of wheat and a breadfruit tree; on both sides of the oval are three flags, two rifles, a cannon barrel on the left, a halberd on the right, and an Andean condor perched on top. Below the coat of arms is the year of minting "1998". Along the rim, the country name in Spanish "REPUBLICA DE BOLIVIA" (Republic of Bolivia), at the bottom ten five-pointed stars.
