    In the center, a palm tree within a circle, flanked by the denomination '1/4 Cent' in Sinhala '1/4 සතය' and Tamil 'சதம்'. Around the circumference, inscriptions in English: on the left the colony name 'CEYLON', at the top and left 'QUARTER CENT', at the bottom the year of issue '1890'. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.
  • Obverse
    In the center, the left-facing crowned profile of the British monarch. On the truncation, the engraver's initials 'C.M.'. Above, the name 'VICTORIA', below the title 'QUEEN'. Meander pattern to the right and left. All inscriptions are in English. A decorative beaded border runs along the rim.
