Reverse On either side of the central hole, wheat ears. On the sides, the inscription '1/2 Cent' (1/2 Centime) split into two parts. Above, along the rim, the colony's name in two lines in French: 'INDOCHINE FRANÇAISE' (French Indochina). Below, the mint year '1939', flanked on the left by a cornucopia – the mint mark of the Paris Mint, and on the right by a wing – the privy mark of the mint director Lucien Bazor. A beaded pattern runs along the edge of the coin.
Obverse In the center is the hole. To its left, the Latin letter 'R', and to its right, 'F' – the abbreviation for 'République Française' (French Republic). Above, a Phrygian cap (facing left). The rim features a continuous wheat ear pattern, intertwined with oak branches. Below is the engraver's mark of Edmond-Emile Lindauer: 'EmLindauer'.
