Reverse
In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of five flying birds. Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right are fifteen five-pointed stars. Between the fifth and sixth stars is the monogram 'JP' of engraver George James Berry. Along the lower edge is the inscription in English: 'FIVE DOLLARS'.
Obverse
In the central part is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II. To the left and right along the rim are inscriptions in English: 'ELIZABETH II' and 'COOK ISLANDS'. At the bottom near the rim is the year of mintage: 1977.
