In the central part, three voyageurs are depicted paddling a canoe on a river. Along the upper edge arc, the month May is indicated in English: "MAY" and French: "MAI", with the year 1999 between them. To the left of the design is the monogram "SM" of engraver Sergiy Minenok. Along the lower edge arc is the country name Canada in English - "CANADA".

Obverse
