In the central part, a left-facing profile image of Liberty, wearing a headband with the Spanish inscription 'LIBERTAD' (Liberty). Along the left arc of the coin is the Spanish inscription: '10 CENTAVOS'. Along the right arc is the year of issue, 1897. Dots are placed on both sides of the inscriptions. The coin's edge features decorative elements in the form of rounded denticles.
Obverse
In the central part, the coat of arms of the Dominican Republic. On the motto scroll in the lower part of the arms is the Spanish inscription: 'DIOS PATRIA LIBERTAD', translated: 'God. Fatherland. Liberty'. Below the arms, the letter 'A' - the mintmark of the Paris Mint. To its left is a flower, to its right – a symbol of authority (a fasces with an axe). To the left, top, and right along the rim is the country name in Spanish: 'REPUBLICA. DOMINICANA'. In the lower part along the edge arc is the weight of 2.5 grams: '2 ½ GRAMOS'. The inscriptions are separated by two five-pointed stars. The coin's edge features decorative elements in the form of rounded denticles.
