In the central part is a frontal view of an elephant's head against the background of the African continent. On the left is the name Africa in English: "AFRICA". Along the edge of the coin is an inscription in French: "ÉMISSION MONÉTAIRE DE L'INSTITUT DE DÉVELOPPEMENT DE L'AFRIQUE CENTRALE" - "MONETARY ISSUE OF THE INSTITUTE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CENTRAL AFRICA".

Along the rim are inscriptions in French, on the left: "4500 CFA" - "4500 CFA FRANCS", at the top and right: "AFRIQUE CENTRALE REPUBLIQUE GABONAISE" - "CENTRAL AFRICA REPUBLIC OF GABON", at the bottom - the year of issue: "2005". In the central part is a drop of oil against the outline of the state of Gabon. Below is a two-line inscription in French: "S.E. OMAR BONGO ONNDIMBA STABILITÉ 1967 - 2005" - "H.E. OMAR BONGO ONDIMBA STABILITY 1967 - 2005".
