    In the central part, within a raised circle, a lion walking to the right against a background of mountains is depicted. Below, at the border of the image, the letter "H" - the mint mark of the Birmingham Mint. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top "EAST AFRICA"; at the bottom, in three lines - "1 SHILLING 1950", with a diamond shape on the left and right. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.

    In the central part is the left-facing profile of King George VI of Great Britain wearing a crown. Along the edge of the coin runs a Latin inscription "GEORGE THE SIXTH KING": on the left the monarch's name "GEORGIVS", on the right "SEXTVS∙ REX". Below the truncation of the monarch's neck is the designer's signature "PM" of the British medallist Percy Metcalfe. The coin's edge features decorative raised denticles.
