In the central part, within a closed linear circle: on the left, in an oval frame, a symbolic depiction of the coat of arms of Portugal, below it a ribbon with the inscription '1500' — the year of Brazil's discovery; on the right, in a second oval frame, a symbolic depiction of the coat of arms of Brazil, below it a ribbon with the inscription '1900' — the year of mintage and the 400th anniversary of the commemorative date. CENTENARIO DO DESCOBRIMENTO DO BRASIL', translated as '4th Centenary of the Discovery of Brazil'; at the bottom the mintage year '1900', flanked on both sides by two raised elements in the form of five-pointed stars. In the central part, a full-length figure of the Portuguese navigator Pedro Álvares Cabral, a military commander, explorer, and discoverer of Brazil. In his left hand he holds a flag, in his right a Christian symbol, below him — a star shining with numerous rays. Below the image of Pedro Álvares Cabral is an inscription with his name in Portuguese: 'PEDR. ALVARES CABRAL'.
