In the central part, a French inscription in two lines: "1 FRANC 1979" - 1 franc 1979. Below it are the letters of the Paris Mint - a wing and a cornucopia. Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right runs a French text: "UNION MONETAIRE OUEST-AFRICAINE" - West African Monetary Union, framed by dots; below - the mark "JP. PÉTHORÉ", belonging to the artist Jean-Pierre Réthoré.
Obverse
In the central part, a gold dust weight (Taku-Ashanti). To its left is the letter "JP.R." - the mark of the Paris Mint artist Jean-Pierre Réthoré. Around the edge of the coin is a French inscription: "BANQUE CENTRALE ᴅᴇS ETATS ᴅᴇ L'AFRIQVE ᴅᴇ L'OUEST" - Central Bank of the West African States.
