    In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left, with the English inscription 'EURO' to its right, translating to '2 Euro'. Below the letter 'O' is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. From these outlines, six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards, each ending with one of the 12 stars.

    Along the rim on the outer ring, 12 stars of the European Union are evenly distributed. On the inner disc, the top inscription reads 'ÉLYSÉE TREATY' in French 'TRAITÉ DE L`ÉLYSÉE', and at the bottom in German 'ÉLYSÉE-VERTRAG'. In the central part, a portrait of Charles de Gaulle in right-facing half-profile is on the left. On the right is a portrait of Konrad Adenauer in left-facing half-profile. Their engraved signatures are below the portraits. Also, below de Gaulle's portrait is the mintmark of the Paris Mint (a cornucopia). Below Adenauer's portrait is the mark of the Engraving Workshop Master Yves Sampo (a pentagon), and below that the symbols 'RF' – the French mark on EU coins. Between the portraits is a four-line inscription in French and German: '50 / ANS / JAHRE / 2013', translating to '50 YEARS 2013'.
