At the top, along the rim, the text 'ONE', below 'SEDI' — translating to '1 cedi'. The inscriptions are separated on each side by two rosettes resembling bows. In the center, the coat of arms shield of Ghana divides the mint year '1979' into two parts. A cross with a leopard image divides the shield into four quarters: top left, a ceremonial okyeame sword crossed with its sheath; top right, a castle on a base of three wavy bands; bottom left, a cocoa tree with a lush crown; bottom right, a gold mine on the ground.
