Reverse
The central part features the coat of arms of Colombia. In the upper part, along the rim's curve, is text in Spanish: "CINCO DECIMOS" - five decimos. Along the curve of the left rim is the weight: "G.12,500"; on the right is the silver content indication: "LEY 0,500". Along the curve of the lower rim is an inscription in Spanish: "MEDELLIN" - the mint in the city of Medellín. The edge is decorated with a decorative element in the form of dentils.
Obverse
The central part depicts the head of Liberty facing left, wearing a headband with the Spanish inscription "LIBERTAD" - "Liberty". Below it is the date of issue - 1887. To the right, above, and to the left is an inscription in Spanish: "REPUBLIKA DE COLOMBIA", which translates to "Republic of Colombia". The edge is decorated with a decorative element in the form of dentils.
