Obverse
The central part features a left-facing profile of the Head of State Malietoa Tanumafili II. Along the upper edge of the coin, from left to right, runs the text 'MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II SAMOA I SISIFO' (Malietoa Tanumafili II Western Samoa). Below the neck truncation are the medallist's initials: 'HP' - Thomas Humphrey Paget. At the bottom, the mint year '1974' is flanked by five-pointed stars.
