    In the central part is the state symbol of the Congo Free State - a stylized image of a five-pointed star. Below is the year of issue: '1887', flanked by the letters 'L' and 'W' - the marks of the Brussels Mint artist Leopold Wiener. To the left and right of it are three five-pointed stars each, arranged vertically. In the upper part, along the curve of the coin's edge, is text in French, divided by the top ray of the star: '1 Cme.' - 1 centime. Around the circumference are raised elements in the form of denticles.

    In the central part, within a circle of dots, is a composition consisting of five monograms of Leopold II. Along the edge of the coin is an inscription in French: 'LEOPOLD II R. D. BELGES SOUV. DE L'ETAT INDEP. DU CONGO' - Leopold II King of the Belgians and Sovereign of the Independent State of the Congo, divided by a five-pointed star. Along the rim is a denticulated relief.
