Between them, in the center, is the numeral "5", below the inscription for franc in two lines, in French: "FRANCS" and in Rundi: "AMAFRANGA".

    Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right is text in Rundi: "IBANKI YA REPUBLIKA Y'U BURUNDI" - "BANK OF THE REPUBLIC OF BURUNDI". In the central part are three five-pointed stars. Around them, in two lines, is the inscription of the country's motto, above in Rundi: "UBUMWI IBIKORWA ITIRAMBERE", below - in French: "UNITÉ TRAVAIL PROGRÈS". Translated as: "UNITY WORK PROGRESS". In the lower part along the edge of the coin is the year of issue, 1968.
