Along the upper edge in an arc is the Empress's name in German 'MARIA THERESIA' (Maria Theresa). The coin's rim features decorative raised dots.

The center depicts the summer residence of the imperial family, Schönbrunn: the palace, above it the Neptune Fountain and the Gloriette pavilion. Along the rim are inscriptions in German: at the top the country name 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' (Republic of Austria), at the bottom – '1000 SCHILLING' (1000 Schillings), above it the year of mintage '1993'. The rim features dot-like elements.
