    In the central part, a sailing ship with lateen sails is depicted facing right; three seagulls are above the vessel, palm leaves overhang from above, and waves roll onto a sandy shore below. To the right of the ship, within an oval, is a frontal portrait of the Portuguese explorer Fernão do Pó. Along the edge of the coin is an inscription: on the left in Spanish, the explorer's name 'Fernão do Pó'; below, the year of mintage '2014'. The issue is dedicated to the explorer of the West African coast and discoverer of several islands in the Gulf of Guinea, Fernão do Pó.

    At the center is the coat of arms of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. It features a heraldic shield depicting a silk-cotton tree (bombax); above the shield, six six-pointed stars are arranged in an arc; below it is the motto in Spanish 'UNIDAD PAZ Y JUSTICIA' (Unity, Peace, and Justice). Along the rim are inscriptions in Spanish: at the top, the country name 'REPUBLICA DE GUINEA ECUATORIAL' (Republic of Equatorial Guinea); at the bottom, the inscription '1000 FRANCOS CFA' (1000 CFA Francs).
