    At the top, a chrysanthemum flower. In the center, the inscription '5 yen' written vertically in Japanese: "五圓". Along the rim are two branches tied at the bottom with a bow: paulownia on the left, chrysanthemum on the right. The edges of the rim feature decorative raised denticles.

    Along the rim are inscriptions in Japanese: on the left, "日本大" - "GREAT JAPAN"; on the right and top, the year of minting: "昭和五年" - "5TH YEAR OF SHŌWA" or 1930 in the Gregorian calendar. In the center is a depiction of the sun, its rays forming an eight-petaled flower. At the bottom is the inscription '5 yen' in Japanese: "五圓". The edges of the rim feature decorative raised denticles.
