In the central part is the coat of arms of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, which is a round disc with an angel framed by two interlocking chains. Along the outer edge of the disc at the top is the state name in English "REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS", at the bottom is the motto in Marshallese "JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN", meaning "Accomplishment Through Joint Effort". Two rays emanate upwards from the angel's head, between which is a twenty-four-pointed star. Above the angel's wings: on the right is a fishing net, on the left is a shell tool. Below the wings: on the right is a canoe, on the left are coconut palms. Below the angel is an image of a traditional Marshallese navigation chart in perspective, below it an inscription on a ribbon "Seal", meaning "Seal". Below the outer chain, to the left of the disc, is the $5 sign — "five dollars", to the right is the year of mintage "1995".
