    Along the upper edge of the coin is the inscription 'NEW FOUNDLAND' (the name of the dominion). In the central part, within an open circle with decorative scrolls below, is a three-line inscription in English: '20 CENTS 1904'. Below is the letter 'H' – the mintmark of the Birmingham Mint.

    At the top, left and center along the coin's rim is the inscription 'EDWARDVS VII DEI GRATIA REX IMPERATOR', which translates from Latin as 'Edward VII, by the grace of God, King, Emperor'. In the central part is his portrait, facing right.
