On either side of the portrait, the inscription in German 'FRIEDE DEN HÜTTEN KRIEG DEN PALÄSTEN', translated as 'PEACE TO THE HUTS, WAR ON THE PALACES', is split into two parts. To the right of the image are the artist's initials 'ER' - Eugen Ruhl.
