    In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of two ancient three-masted sailing ships sailing leftwards on the sea. Below them is a flattened depiction of a globe of the Earth. Above them, fifteen five-pointed stars are arranged in a semicircle. To the right above the sea is the monogram 'JP' of the engraver George James Berry. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin in an arc, is the English text: 'JAMES COOCK SECOND PACIFIK VOYAGE', translating to 'James Cook's Second Pacific Voyage'. Along the arc of the lower edge is inscribed: 'TWO AND A HALFS DOLLARS' - 2.5 dollars.

    In the central part is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II. To the left and right along the rim are inscriptions in English: 'ELIZABETH II', which translates as 'Elizabeth II', and 'COOK ISLANDS', translating to 'Cook Islands'. At the bottom near the rim is the year of mintage, 1973.
