    The central part depicts one of the Summer Olympic Games disciplines – running. In the center of the reverse are relief drawings to the left of three running athletes: two in the background are ancient athletes, with a meander pattern under their feet; in the foreground is an athlete of our time. Above the pattern is the mint year '1995'. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the French text 'D' ATHÉNES À ATLANTA' (From Athens to Atlanta). Below is the year of the XXVI Summer Olympic Games '1996'.
  • Obverse
    On the left, top, and right is the state name in French 'REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN' (Republic of Benin). In the center is the country's coat of arms. It is a quarterly heraldic shield: in the upper left quarter is a castle, upper right - the Star of Benin, lower left - a palm tree, lower right - a sailing ship. The shield is supported by leopards and is topped by a crest consisting of two twisted cornucopias filled with grain and sand. At the base of the coat of arms is the motto - 'Fraternity, Justice, Labor' (Fraternité, Justice, Travail). In the lower part, along the edge of the coin, is a two-line inscription in French – '1000 FRANS CFA' (1000 CFA Francs).
