    In the central part, within a circle of silver-colored metal, eight zigzagging lines are depicted, which intersect to form a diagonal lattice in two places. A stylized image of a DNA molecule is superimposed on the lines. Below the molecule is the engraver's monogram, John Mills. Around the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top: 'DNA DOUBLE HELIX'; to the left and right the years 1953-2003; and at the bottom: 'TWO POUNDS'.

    In the central part, within a circle of silver-colored metal, a right-facing profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Around the edge of the coin, divided by a dot, is the inscription: 'ELIZABETH II. DEI. GRA. REG. FID. DEF.', which translates from English as 'Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith'. Below the shoulder truncation is the monogram 'IRB' - the mark of engraver Ian Rank-Broadley. Around the circumferences of the rim and the inner circle are decorative elements in the form of dots.
