In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the English text 'WORLD FOOTBALL 1982'. Below it is an inscription in Amharic '፳ ብር Birr 20' (20 Birr). Along the lower edge is an inscription in Amharic 'የ፲፱፻፸፬ የዓለም የእግር ኳከ' (1982 World Championship), above it the country name in English 'ETHIOPIA'.
