    Along the upper edge of the coin, from left to right, is the country name in Spanish: "REPUBLICA DE PANAMA". Below is the year of issue "1982". The inscriptions are separated by two raised dot elements. In the center is the coat of arms of Panama: a harpy eagle with wings spread above the heraldic shield, above which are nine five-pointed stars. The shield is divided into 5 parts. The upper left part features a hanging saber and rifle. The upper right part features a crossed shovel and hoe. The central part depicts the Isthmus of Panama, with the Sun setting behind mountains in the west and the Moon rising in the east. The lower left part of the shield shows a cornucopia, the right part shows a winged wheel. On each side of the shield are two national flags. On the ribbon held in the eagle's beak is the motto "Pro Mundi Beneficio", which translates from Latin as "For the Benefit of the World".
