Reverse
The central part of the reverse features relief designs: on the left, a ship with lateen sails, below the ship a stylized sea, on the right a left-facing portrait of the Portuguese explorer Fernão do Pó. Along the edge of the coin is an inscription: on the left in Spanish, the explorer's name 'FERNÃO DO PÓ', below the name a curved line. Below the image of the sea, the mint year '2014' is placed horizontally. The issue is dedicated to the explorer of the West African coast and discoverer of several islands in the Gulf of Guinea, Fernão do Pó.
Obverse
In the center is the coat of arms of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. It features a heraldic shield depicting a silk-cotton tree (bombax), above the shield six six-pointed stars are arranged in an arc, and below it the motto in Spanish 'UNIDAD PAZ Y JUSTICIA' (Unity, Peace and Justice). Along the rim are inscriptions in Spanish: at the top the country name 'REPUBLICA DE GUINEA ECUATORIAL' (Republic of Equatorial Guinea), at the bottom the inscription '1000 FRANCOS CFA' (1000 CFA Francs).
