In the central part is the coat of arms of France from 1852-1870: an eagle with a bundle of lightning bolts in its talons, surrounded by the chain of the Legion of Honour, against a background of crossed scepters and a mantle strewn with bees and topped with a crown. The coat of arms divides the inscription "1F" - one franc - into two parts. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the text "FRENCH EMPIRE" - "EMPIRE FRANÇAIS". Below is the year of issue "1867", flanked on the left by a heraldic fleur-de-lis and on the right by an anchor. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.
  • Obverse
In the central part of the coin is struck the left-facing profile of the first President of the French Republic, Napoleon Bonaparte. To the right and left along the edge is the text "NAPOLEON III EMPEROR" in French "NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR". Below the neck truncation is the mark of the French medallist "BARRE" - Désiré-Albert Barre, and to the right is "BB", the mint mark for Strasbourg. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
