On the shield – a small image of a rampant lion, with a five-pointed star in the upper left corner. To the left and right of the coat of arms, reed branches are crossed at the base of the state symbol. Below, the year of minting '1887'. Around the edge of the coin, decorative elements in the form of dentils.

    In the central part of the coin, the left-facing profile of King Leopold II of Belgium is struck. Along the arc of the coin's edge from left to right runs the text 'LEOP. II R.D. BELG. SOUV. DE L'ETAT INDEP. DU CONGO', which translates from French as 'Leopold II King of Belgium Sovereign of the Independent State of the Congo'. Below the truncation - the artist's mark of the Belgian medallist Leopold Wiener – 'L. WIENER'.
