    In the central part, within a raised circle, a lion walking to the right against a background of mountains is depicted. Below, on the border of the image, the letter 'H' - the mint mark of the Birmingham Mint. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top 'EAST AFRICA'; at the bottom, in three lines - '1 SHILLING 1942'. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.

    In the central part is the left-facing profile of King George VI of Great Britain wearing a crown. Along the edge of the coin runs the Latin text 'GEORGIVS VI REX ET INDIÆ IMPERATOR:', which translates to 'GEORGE VI KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA'. Below the truncation of the monarch's neck is the artist's mark of the British medallist 'PM' - Percy Metcalfe. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
