    The central part features the lesser coat of arms of the Austrian Empire: a double-headed eagle with wings spread, its heads crowned, above them the Crown of Saint Stephen; in the eagle's right talon are a sword and scepter, in the left an orb; on its breast is the family heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain, below the shield are the empire's highest orders. Along the upper edge of the coin is a Latin inscription to the right and left: 'HVN∙BOH∙LOMB∙ET VEN∙GAL∙LOD∙ILL∙REX∙A∙A∙1856' (King of Hungary, Bohemia, Lombardy and Venice, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria 1856). The rim features decorative dots.

    Centered is the right-facing profile of Emperor of the Austrian Empire, King of Bohemia, Franz Joseph I, crowned with a laurel wreath with a ribbon forming a bow. Along the edge of the coin runs a Latin inscription: to the left, top, and right 'FRANC∙IOS∙I∙D∙G∙AVSTRIAE IMPERATOR∙' (Franz Joseph I, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria). Below is the letter 'A' – the mint mark for the Vienna Mint. The rim features decorative raised dots.
