In the central part, there is an English inscription in three lines: "5 cents 1903". "5 cents" translates from English as 'five cents', and the digits 1903 are the year of issue. Below them is an oval. The inscription is enclosed within a raised circle with scrollwork at the bottom resembling a ribbon. Along the upper edge, from left to right, is the English inscription "NEWFOUNDLAND", the name of the British dominion, translating to Russian as 'Newfoundland'. The inscription begins and ends with dots. The coin's edge features decorative elements in the form of dots.
  • Obverse
In the central part is the right-facing profile of King Edward VII of England wearing the Imperial State Crown. Along the edge of the coin, from left to right, runs the Latin text "EDVARDVS VII D.G. REX IMPERATOR", which translates to 'Edward VII, by the Grace of God, King and Emperor'. Below are the letters "GES", denoting the initials of the designer George William de Saulles. The coin's edge is decorated with raised dots.
