Along the edge of the coin, decorative elements in the form of dentils.

In the central part of the coin, the left-facing profile of King Leopold II of Belgium is struck. Along the arc of the coin's edge from left to right runs the text 'LEOP. II R. D. BELG. SOUV. DE L'ETAT INDEP. DU CONGO', which translates from French as 'Leopold II King of the Belgians Sovereign of the Independent State of the Congo'.
