    The central part features the coat of arms of Ecuador: an oval shield depicting the Chimborazo volcano, the Guayas River, a ship, and above them the sun flanked by astrological signs; a condor with outstretched wings stands atop the shield; on either side are two flags of Ecuador, with a laurel branch on the left and a palm leaf on the right between the flags; fasces are below. Around the arms are inscriptions in Spanish: 'GRAM. 12.5' (12.5 grams), 'UN MEDIO SUCRE' (1/2 sucre), the metal fineness 'LEI 0.900', and at the bottom in two lines the mint mark 'HEATON BIRMINGHAM'. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.

    The central part features the left-facing profile of the Grand Marshal of Peru, Antonio José Francisco de Sucre y Alcalá. Inscriptions along the rim: on the left, top, and right, the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR' (Republic of Ecuador); at the bottom, the year of issue '1884'. The coin's edge is decorated with raised decorative denticles.
