In its right talon, the eagle holds a sword and scepter, in its left an orb. On its chest is the familial heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain, with the empire's highest orders below the shield. Along the upper edge of the coin is a Latin inscription to the right and left: 'REX∙LOMB∙ET∙VEN∙DALM∙GAL∙LOD∙ILL∙A∙A∙1837∙' (King of Lombardy and Venice, Dalmatia, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria 1837). The rim features decorative elements in the form of dots.
  • Obverse
Centered is the right-facing profile of Ferdinand I, Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary and Bohemia, wearing a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon forming a bow. Around the edge, from left to right, runs the Latin text: 'FERD∙I∙D∙G∙AVSTR∙IMP∙HVNG∙BOH∙R∙H∙N∙V∙' (Ferdinand I, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, Bohemia). Below is the Latin letter 'A' – the mint mark of Vienna. The rim features decorative raised denticles.
