The central part features an image of a discus thrower in the wind-up phase before the throw, the athlete's body in a complex twist. On the left are ancient buildings, on the right a five-pointed star, below it the name of the host city in Spanish and the year of the Olympic Games 'MOSCU 1980', below that the Olympic emblem. Along the arc of the lower edge is an inscription in Spanish 'XXII JUEGOS OLIMPICOS' (XXII Olympic Games).
Obverse
The center depicts a bank building, below it a two-line inscription in Spanish 'BANCO CENTRAL DE MALABO' (Central Bank of Malabo). Along the rim are inscriptions: at the top the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA DE GUINEA ECUATORIAL' (Republic of Equatorial Guinea), at the bottom – '2.000 EKUELE' (2000 Ekuele), to its left the mintmark of the Chiasso mint – the letters 'CHI' within a circle, to its right the metal fineness '0,927'. The edge of the coin features decorative raised dots.
