    The central part features the coat of arms of Ecuador: an oval shield depicting the Chimborazo volcano, the Guayas River, a ship, and above them a sun flanked by astrological signs; a condor with outstretched wings stands atop the shield; two Ecuadorian flags flank the shield, with a laurel branch on the left and a palm leaf on the right between them; fasces are below. Surrounding the arms are inscriptions in Spanish: 'G. 2.5' (2.5 grams), 'UN DECIMO DE SUCRE' (One decimo of sucre), the metal fineness '0.9', the letter 'H.', and at the bottom the mintmark 'PHILA'. The rim features a pattern of dots.

    The central part features a left-facing portrait of the Grand Marshal of Peru, Antonio José Francisco de Sucre y Alcalá. Inscriptions along the rim: on the left, top, and right, the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR' (Republic of Ecuador); at the bottom, the year of issue '1916'. The edge of the coin is decorated with raised dots.
