The central part features the Australian Coat of Arms: a kangaroo and an emu supporting a shield, above which is the 'Commonwealth Star', below it a torse, and beneath the shield the motto 'ADVANCE AUSTRALIA'. Below the coat of arms, framed by heraldic roses, is the mint year '1919'.

    The central part of the coin features a left-facing profile of King George V of Great Britain. An inscription in Latin runs along the edge: '∙GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:', which translates to 'GEORGE V BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF ALL BRITAIN, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH, EMPEROR OF INDIA'. Below the portrait is a dot. The coin's edge features decorative raised denticles.
