The central part features the lesser coat of arms of the Austrian Empire: a double-headed eagle with spread wings, its heads crowned, above them the Crown of Saint Stephen. In its right talon, the eagle holds a sword and scepter, in its left – an orb. On its chest is the familial heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain. Below, the numeral 5 is within a frame. The frame is flanked on the right by a palm branch and on the left by a laurel branch. Along the edge of the coin, an inscription in Latin arcs on the right and left: «HVN∙BOH∙LOMB∙ET VEN∙GAL∙LOD∙IL∙REX∙A∙A∙1821∙» (King of Hungary, Bohemia, Lombardy and Venice, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria 1821). The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.
  • Obverse
Centered is the right-facing profile of Emperor of the Austrian Empire, King of Hungary and Bohemia, Francis II, wearing a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon. On either side of the portrait are semicircular laurel branches. Below the truncation is the Latin letter «A» – the mint mark of Vienna. Along the rim, the inscription «Francis I by the Grace of God Emperor of Austria» in Latin is split into two parts: on the right «FRANCISCVS I∙D∙G∙», on the left «AVST∙IMPERATOR∙». The rim is decorated with raised decorative denticles.
