    In the central part, against a bas-relief background, a guard dressed in medieval uniform, a cuirass, and a plumed morion helmet takes an oath. His right hand is raised for the vow, his left hand holds a standard. Along the right edge in an arc is a three-line inscription in French "GARDE SUISSE PONTIFICALE" (SWISS GUARD OF THE POPE), below the year of the guard's creation and the mintage year "1506-2006". Some elements are executed in colored enamel.
