    Along the upper edge of the coin, the French text 'BANQUE CENTRALE' is inscribed, with 'ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST' below, translating to 'Central Bank of the West African States'. The inscriptions are separated by rosettes. In the central part of the reverse, a relief image of a goldweight separates the inscription '1 0', with 'FRANCS' below, denoting 'ten francs'. A goldweight is a weight in the shape of a human, animal, or bird figure, used by the Ashanti people for weighing gold dust.

    Around the edge of the coin is a decorative raised pattern resembling petals and berries. In the lower part, along the edge, is the year of mintage '1966'. In the central part is an image of an antelope head. To the left are the letters 'G.B.L. BAZOR' — the privy mark of engraver Lucien Georges Bazor.
