The central part features the Australian Coat of Arms: a kangaroo and an emu supporting a shield on a mound, above which is the Commonwealth Star, below it a torse, and beneath the shield the motto ADVANCE AUSTRALIA. Below the coat of arms, enclosed within heraldic roses, is the issue date '1921' and the mint mark: "M" - Melbourne, Australia.

    The central part of the coin features the left-facing profile of King George V of Great Britain. Along the edge of the coin runs the inscription 'GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT. OMN : REX F.D. IND: IMP:' which translates from Latin as 'George V, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India'. The coin's edge features decorative raised denticles.
