    In the central part, against a background of mountains and clouds, a long-range jet airliner Convair 990 Coronado is depicted flying to the left. Along the edge in an arc: at the top the French inscription 'L'HISTOIRE DE L'AVIATION' (History of Aviation) and above it the seventy-year period of transport aviation development '1931-2001'. On the left, the year of minting '2002'. Elements are executed in color.

    On the left, top, and right, the name of the state in French 'REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN' (Republic of Benin). In the central part is the country's coat of arms. It consists of a quarterly heraldic shield: in the upper left quarter a castle, upper right - the Star of Benin, lower left - a palm tree, lower right - a sailing ship. The shield is supported by leopards, topped by a crest consisting of two twisted cornucopias filled with grain and sand. At the base of the coat of arms is the motto - 'Fraternity, Justice, Labor' (Fraternité, Justice, Travail). In the lower part, along the edge of the coin in an arc, is a two-line inscription in French – '1000 FRANS CFA' (1000 CFA Francs).
