    The central part features a stylized depiction of a lion walking to the right across the savannah, set against a mountain range. Below, at the edge of the grass, the letter "H" - the mint mark - is centered. All inscriptions and images are enclosed within a semicircle, the ends of which, left and right, are marked with ornate vignettes. Along the upper edge, the English text "EAST AFRICA" is inscribed. Left and right are relief images of a diamond. At the bottom is a three-line inscription: "1 SHILLING 1944". The numbers "1944" indicate the year of issue. The coin's edge features decorative elements in the form of denticles.

    The central part features the left-facing profile of the British Emperor George VI wearing a crown. Along the edge of the coin is the Latin inscription "GEORGIVS VI REX ET INDIАE IMPERATOR :", which translates to "George VI, King and Emperor of India :". Below the neck truncation are the letters "PM", which denote the initials of the artist Percy Metcalfe. The coin's edge features decorative raised denticles.
