Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top 'EAST AFRICA'; on the left, bottom, and right 'FIFTY CENTS 1944 HALF SHILLING'. The rim is decorated with decorative denticles.

    In the central part is the left-facing profile of King George VI of Great Britain. Along the edge of the coin runs the Latin text 'GEORGIVS VI REX ET INDIÆ IMPERATOR:', which translates to 'GEORGE VI KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA'. The rim features decorative raised denticles.
