In the central part - an inscription in three lines: two francs 1872 - «2 FRANCES 1872». Around the circumference, branches of oak and laurel, tied together with a ribbon forming a bow. Below the bow, the Latin letter "A" - the mint mark of Paris. From left to right, along the rim, the inscriptions «LIBERTÉ», «ÉGALITÉ», «FRATERNITÉ», which translate from French as "LIBERTY", "EQUALITY", "FRATERNITY". Between the inscriptions are raised dots. At the bottom left, an oak leaf and a heraldic lily; at the bottom right, an anchor. Around the circumference, denticles.
Obverse
In the central part of the coin, the left-facing profile of a woman wearing a wreath is struck; above her, a six-pointed star. To the left and right, the name of the country "French Republic" in French «REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE» is split into two parts. Below the neck truncation, the engraver's mark of Eugène André Oudiné «E.A.Oudiné.F.». Along the rim, denticles.
