    In the central part, there is a palm tree framed by an ornament. On either side of it is the date of issue - '1918'. At the top is the country name in English - BRITISH WEST AFRICA, at the bottom the inscription - 'ONE SHILLING'. The edge of the coin has raised elements in the form of denticles.

    In the central part of the coin is the left-facing profile of George V, King of Great Britain and Ireland. To the left and right around the rim is text in English: 'GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:', which translates to 'GEORGE V BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF ALL THE BRITONS, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH, EMPEROR OF INDIA'.
