Along the upper rim, an inscription from Surah 9, Ayah 20: "الذين آمنوا وهاجروا وجاهدوا في سبيل الله بأموالهم وأنفسهم أعظم درجة عند الله وأولئك هم الفائزون" - "THOSE WHO BELIEVED AND EMIGRATED AND STRIVED IN THE CAUSE OF ALLAH WITH THEIR WEALTH AND THEIR LIVES ARE GREATER IN RANK IN THE SIGHT OF ALLAH. AND IT IS THOSE WHO ARE THE ATTAINERS [OF SUCCESS]." In the central part, a circle with Arabic inscriptions along its edge: at the top, "الجمهورية العراقية" - "REPUBLIC OF IRAQ"; at the bottom, the minting year in Hijri, 1401, and Gregorian, 1980: "١٤٠١هـ-١٩٨٠م". Between the inscriptions, the denomination "1 dinar" in two lines in Arabic: "١ دينار".
Obverse
In the central part, the Roman numeral XV in Arabic script: "١٥هـ". In the left part, along the rim, a two-line inscription: at the top in Arabic, "القرن ١٥هـ"; at the bottom in English, "15th C. H.", which translates as "15th Century". On the right, an inscription from Surah 21, Ayah 92 of the Quran: "إن هذه أمتكم أمة واحدة" - "INDEED, THIS, YOUR RELIGION, IS ONE RELIGION."
